Password Hash Synchronization
Also known as: PHS
Entra ID
PHS synchronizes a securely hashed representation of the on-prem password hash to Entra ID, allowing the cloud to authenticate users directly. Combined with Seamless SSO, it is the most resilient hybrid sign-in option for most organizations.
Why it matters
PHS removes dependence on always-available on-prem infrastructure (unlike federation or Pass-through Authentication) and enables leaked-credential detection — improving both resilience and security.
