Multi-Factor Authentication
Also known as: MFA
Concepts
MFA requires a user to present two or more independent factors — something they know (password), something they have (a phone or security key), or something they are (biometrics) — before access is granted.
Why it matters
Passwords alone are routinely phished or stolen. MFA blocks the overwhelming majority of account-takeover attacks, which is why it is now a baseline requirement for cyber-insurance and most compliance frameworks.
